IntraUterine TuboPeritoneal Insemination  (IUTPI)

A new method of intrauterine insemination with encouraging results.

Inspirator, inventor and creator of the new method is the Obstetrician – Gynaecologist Leonidas Mamas.

It is applied to cases of unexplained infertility, mild and moderate male infertility and mild and moderate endometriosis.

Intrauterine tuboperitoneal insemination (IUTPI – L. Mamas method), is an innovative insemination method, painless, cost effective, requiring less hormonal prescriptions. In the 15 years of its application, results are very encouraging, reaching 30% per attempt.

This method can be applied every 2 months and for 4 – 6 attempts before seeking more invasive and stressful methods of assisted reproduction like IVF, ICSI etc. Besides, the World Health Organization (WHO) advises that 4 – 6 attempts of IUI should proceed IVF.

The method’s effectiveness relies on the use of 10 ml of inseminated sperm against the 1 – 4 ml of sperm used in the classical method of insemination (IUI). In addition, the specially designed, by Dr. Leonidas Mamas, speculum, the DNB Speculum, clamps the cervix avoiding any reflux of the inseminated sperm. Spermatozoa are, thus, pushed along the whole female genital tract (uterus, fallopian tubes, pouch of Douglas) closer to the sites where fertilization takes place.
 

IUTPI’s positive results have been published in the medical journal ‘Fertility and Sterility’, March 2006 issue (.pdf) and presented in various international congresses (San Francisco 2008, Athens 2009) causing great interest among scientists and couples.
